Tube Cutter / Production Tools
Lyra Therapeutics
Below you can find a collection of many tools I designed as a Manufacturing Engineer Intern at Lyra Therapeutics as well as a short description of the problem they solve.
Tube Cutter: SLA part above, CAD below
Problem: Over 1-year lead time on necessary 1-inch heat-shrink tubes.
Solution: Cut tubes to length in a safe and efficient way. The tube cutter is able to cut a 4 foot section of tubing into 1-inch segments in less than 30 seconds. The way the razor blade is mounted ensures that the operator remains safe, and the angle it is mounted at cuts the tube with a slicing motion, importantly preserving the round profile. The tubes are conveniently collected in a jar below.
Carton Label Stencil: SLS part above
Problem: Medical labels are placed incorrectly on boxes because of operator error when measuring.
Solution: Make a foolproof stencil that ensures that all medical labels are placed within the tolerance of ± 0.5 inch in any direction.
Bearing Mounting Tool: FDM part shown above
Problem: Operators were not always using a ruler to perform a certain in-process step.
Solution: Make and document a tool that can perform the in-process step with ease so that it is quality approved/adherent.
Display Case:
Problem: It's difficult to explain what Lyra does to visitors and new hires.
Solution: Make a display case that has important in-process steps as well as the finished product while adding decoration to the common space.
